American Cruise Lines Adds Alton, Illinois as Turnaround Port
ST. LOUIS, MO, (SLFP.com), August 25, 2019 - As flood waters have receded, riverboats have resumed cruising the Mississippi River. The Becky Thatcher and the Tom Sawyer offer daily one hour cruises and a two hour skyline dinner cruise from their dock on the St. Louis Riverfront.

The 185-passenger America, part of the fleet of modern riverboats from American Cruise Lines, docked overnight August 15 on the St. Louis Riverfront. This Tuesday, August 27, the Sprit of Peoria paddlewheel riverboat will take passengers on an all day cruise to Grafton, Il and return to St. Louis in the evening.

Recently, the City of Alton announced it had approved a five-year agreement with American Cruise Lines to add a turnaround port on the Alton riverfront for the Mississippi River passenger cruise ships. Service is expected to begin in 2020.

A spokesperson for American Cruise Lines noted that the company will be bringing guests and their fleet of small ships to both St. Louis and Alton.

American operates the largest and newest fleet of coastal cruise ships, Victorian-style paddlewheelers, and the only modern riverboats in the U.S. All ships accommodate 100-200 passengers and are built, crewed, and registered in the U.S.A.

The 190-passenger American Harmony, departed from New Orleans this past Saturday, August 17, along its inaugural Mississippi River cruise. The riverboat departed August 25, on a 22-day sailing from New Orleans to St. Paul.

American Harmony showcases striking interior design elements, from a five-story glass atrium in the center of the ship, to an all-suite 5th deck housing 10 gorgeous 405 sq/ft Veranda Suites. Thoughtfully designed to bring the outside world in, American Harmony features expansive glass windows offering sweeping views throughout the ship.

With the largest staterooms in the industry, floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, and private furnished balconies, American Harmony advances American Cruise Lines' revolutionary modern riverboat series and is the only ship of its kind available on the Mississippi River in 2019.

In 2018, American Cruise Lines celebrated its most award-winning year ever, winning 14 travel awards, including Condé Nast's Readers' Choice Award for Top Small Cruise Lines; and Cruise Critic's Cruisers' Choice Award for Best River Line in the U.S. & Canada.
