Dining in The Central West End

Saint Louis City contains many beautiful turn-of-the-century buildings nestled among giant oak trees in a chic neighborhood known as the Central West End. This popular residential area just north and east of Forest Park features a variety of upscale boutiques, art galleries, antique shops and bookstores.

Diners can enjoy a relaxing afternoon of people-watching at one of the outdoor cafes or coffee shops or take in the nightlife at some of the warm and friendly pubs. Ornate lampposts and brick-lined streets along Maryland Avenue create European sophistication.

The record-breaking king chess piece, in front of the World Chess Hall of Fame, stands 20 feet tall with a base of 9 feet, 2 inches, and is an exact scale replica of the black Staunton King piece used in the inaugural Sinquefield Cup held at the Saint Louis Chess Club annually since 2013.

Visitors to the beautiful Forest Park can also enjoy unique dining experiences at the Missouri History Museum and the Saint Louis Art Museum. At the east end of the community, the new Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, on Lindell Boulevard, features the world's largest collection of mosaic art, covering 83,000 square feet. The interior mosaics took a father and son team nearly 80 years to create using than 41 million pieces of tile in over 7,000 colors. Its glittering emerald dome has become a landmark for this eclectic community.
