Chicago's Top Young Designers Design Fashions Inspired by GM Vehicles
CHICAGO, (SLFP.com) April 6, 2003 - Students of the International Academy of Design and Technology (IADT) will bring the ultimate fashion accessory - a General Motors vehicle - to life at their annual fashion show, "IMAGINE 2003," on May 22, at the Great Hall inside Chicago's Union Station.
General Motors' North Central Region and IADT are joining forces to add a new dimension to this year's show by challenging students to design fashions inspired by GM vehicles and their parts. The automotive-inspired fashions will be revealed, and awards for the top two designs will be presented at IMAGINE 2003.
"General Motors builds 'gotta have' vehicles with compelling and innovative styling," stated Eileen Healy, General Manager for General Motors' North Central Region. "We got involved with IMAGINE to inspire future style makers through a unique design competition and to support their efforts with meaningful awards."
IADT students will compete for two General Motors awards by designing clothing inspired by one of five GM vehicles. The senior-level winner will receive an all-expenses paid trip to "Eyes on Design," a weekend-long design event at the GM Technical Center in Warren, Mich. The junior-level winner will receive a monetary scholarship from GM.
Erin Shea, IADT's Program Director, Fashion Design, added: "We are delighted to welcome GM as this year's IMAGINE title sponsor. Their close involvement in this annual event presents a lot of exciting opportunities for students to challenge their creative abilities and stretch their design talents in many new directions. We are excited to collaborate with GM and our other sponsors to make IMAGNE 2003 a real success for our students, fashion and business colleagues and for the general public."
IMAGINE 2003 brings together student works from all IADT design and technology programs, including: original women's and men's clothing collections by IADT's fashion design students; logo, poster, program and photographs by advertising and design/computer graphics students; computer, audio and 3D animation by multimedia and design students; technical support by PC/LAN and eCommerce students; set design by interior design students; and show production by merchandise management students.
Located at One North State Street, IADT-Chicago is an accredited, four-year college that offers bachelor's and associate's degrees in a variety of disciplines based on a strong heritage in fashion and an expanding emphasis on high technology education.
