Celebrities Take a "Brake" Before the Academy Awards for ten Fashion Show
HOLLYWOOD, (Newstream) March 21, 2002 - Celebrities including Minnie Driver, Jane Leeves, Kate Beckinsale and LeAnn Rimes take a "brake" for charity before the Academy Awards for ten, a modernistic fashion show featuring stars modeling couture fashion and a runway show highlighting Americans' most visible accessory - the car.
Celebrity models, fashion designers and innovative General Motors' concept and production vehicles will take the runway at the Hollywood Palladium for the ten fashion show, a Jeffrey Best creation. In a designer-inspired setting, the evening begins with cocktails & hors d'oeuvres at 9 p.m. followed by the runway show and culminating with an after-party and special live music performance by The Wallflowers.
The fashion and entertainment industries have long been the dominant forces in setting styles and trends, but today vehicles play a major role in leading the image-defining perceptions of a generation. The ten fashion show will illustrate the connection between automobiles and high fashion as GM showcases vehicles with strong styling cues and celebrity models walk the runway in equally inspiring fashions.
"GM is transforming the automotive landscape with imaginative new vehicle designs," said Wayne Cherry, GM vice president, Design. "Our design teams keep a constant eye on the world's fashion runways for inspiration and insight into cutting-edge trends from the fashion and entertainment industries that can be translated into our products."
The designer styles worn by celebrities in the fashion show will be auctioned on eBay with winning bids being matched by General Motors and all proceeds going to each celebrity's charity of choice.
Other celebrity fashion show participants include Shiva Rose, Rose McGowan, Jeri Ryan, Janel Moloney, Christina Applegate, Jules Asner, Leonor Varela, Rachel Weisz, Christa Miller, Marley Shelton and Vivica A. Fox wearing fashions from Valentino, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Badgley Mischka, Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, Matthew Williamson, Oscar de la Renta, Christian Dior, Vera Wang and Luella Bartley.
Innovative, cutting-edge GM concept and production vehicles include the Bel Air, Cien, Corvette, CTS, Escalade, EXT, H2, Imaj, LaCrosse, Rendezvous, Solstice, Sky, SSR, Vibe, VUE, XLR, 9X and the 9-3 Viggen grace the runway highlighting the future of car design.

Hush Puppies Gifts Snazzy Swarovski
Studded 'Day Before' Shoes to Female Oscar Nominees
ST. LOUIS, MO (Newstream) March 21, 2002 - Hush Puppies, America's most recognized comfort shoe brand, has decided to join the parade of Oscar nominee gifting with a custom made Day Before the Red Carpet shoe for leading lady Oscar nominees and Oscar host, Whoopi Goldberg.
Partnering with Swarovski, Hush Puppies designed a fashionable flat shoe in vibrant strawberry suede, styled after the popular driving shoe, and individually decorated by hand with crystals. This ultra glam comfort flat is designed to get celebrities to their pre-Oscar beauty appointments in style and comfort.
The nominees who received the Day Before the Red Carpet shoes include Nicole Kidman, Halle Berry, Marisa Tomei, Renee Zellweger and Jennifer Connelly. Tilda Swinton and Carrie-Anne Moss were also sent pairs for their nomination at the Independent Spirit Awards, which takes place the day before the Oscars.
"Hush Puppies has always been a leading brand in comfort shoes, especially in suede, for both women and men," remarked Gary Ramey, VP Global Marketing at Hush Puppies. "The brand is taking on an entirely new direction with fresh, fashion forward styles. With the resurgence of flat shoes as a major trend in fashion, Hush Puppies has the reputation and the styling to step into the highly visible Oscar arena with a 'day before' shoe to enhance awareness for the brand," concluded Ramey.
Although this year will be the debut of the Day Before the Red Carpet shoes for women, Hush Puppies have been worn on some of the most stylish men's feet at the Oscar ceremony. In 1996, the Michigan-based company started the tradition of custom-making "Tux Pups" for all the male Oscar nominees. Since then, Nicolas Cage, Steve Martin and Kevin Spacey have slipped into Hush Puppies Tux Pups for a dose of luck and comfort. At the 72nd annual awards ceremony, a special children's version was created for nominee Haley Joel Osment.
