Fan-tastic Fashion Show Dazzles Audience

St Louis May 3, 1998 - The Washington University School of Art's Fashion Design Program presented a dazzling show by fifteen very talented young fashion designers. The Fan-tastic Fashion show at the Saint Louis Galleria, May 3, featured a choreographed exhibit of fantasy art apparel and fashion design.

"Everybody participates in fashion, whether they want to or not", said Jeigh Singleton, associate professor of art and coordinator of the fashion design program. "We want to celebrate everyone who keeps it going, the people who make it and buy it and love it."

"This year we've allowed more than one inspiration," explained Singleton. "Themes running through the show include Precious Jewels, Birds and Beasts and Fairy Tale Princesses, as well as things like Spring-time and Festive Occasions."

The 117 outfits designed by six seniors and nine juniors provided original solutions to specific design problems ranging from haute couture to mass-merchandise. Gowns for galas, wimsical fashions, sportswear and special occasions creatively used shimmering metallics as well as traditional wools, cotton pique, taffeta and lace. In presenting their artistic signature collections each designer revealed what they would like to become.

The 69th Annual Fashion Show, chaired by Susan Block, a 1976 graduate of the fashion program, was organized by a committee of volunteers. Models from Talent Plus/Centro Models, The Delcia Agency, Barbizon Modeling Agencies and the M Agency, students and members of the community participated in the fashion show benefit.
