The City of O'Fallon Wins Two Top "Louie" Awards
O'FALLON, MO, (SLFP.com), March 7, 2003 - The City of O'Fallon scored an impressive sweep on February 22 by winning awards in the only two categories it entered in the International Special Events Society competition.
The awards were presented at the organization's annual Missouri chapter gala, held at the American Theatre in downtown St. Louis. Judging for awards that were handed out in 13 different categories was conducted by Chicago members of the organization.
They're called the Louie Awards (as in Meet Me in St. Louie, Louie). One of the O'Fallon winners was for the Best Use of Graphic Design, submitted for the 2002 Heritage & Freedom Fest. The Public Relations Department team of Marsha Seymour, Assistant Director of Public Relations, and Sharon Dunn submitted a package that included a full-color brochure which went to sponsors. The package included merchandise, a Power Point presentation to sponsors and the July Newsletter, which featured the Heritage & Freedom Fest event.
The second Louie award was for Best Technical Production for the 2002 O'Fallon Volunteer Recognition Banquet. The work was done by the Communication Department's Ken Snoe, Dave Burkhart, Kim Doane and Matt Kury. It combined video, lighting, sound, staging, multiple cameras and graphic elements which were projected onto a 10 x 12 screen. The production took place in the O'Fallon Municipal Centre gymnasium.
Jones-Confluence Point State Park Receives Funding for Infrastructure
ST. CHARLES, MO, (SLFP.com), March 7, 2003 - Funding from the Metropolitan
Park and Recreation District to the Missouri Department of Natural
Resources will be used to provide access to the Edward "Ted" and Pat
Jones-Confluence Point State Park in St. Charles County.
The Metropolitan Park and Recreation District recently approved
$1.6 million in funding, which the department will use to build a road and
parking area for the park. The 1,118-acre state park is located at the
confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. Because of its location
in a floodplain, the four-mile road and parking area will require a
specialized design. The road will be the first step in the actual
development at the park, which will include trails and interpretation.
"We hope to have this park open to the public in 2004, which would
not be possible without the partnership of the Metropolitan Park and
Recreation District," stated Steve Mahfood, director of the Department of Natural Resources. "The district has been invaluable in making this park a
reality."
In December, the Metropolitan Park and Recreation District also signed an agreement to lease 515 acres of land for $1 for 25 years to the Department of Natural Resources to manage as part of the Jones-Confluence Point State Park.
"It is through such partnerships that the Metropolitan Park and Recreation District will fulfill its mission to work for a cleaner, greener and more connected St. Louis region," state David Fisher, executive director of the Metropolitan Park and Recreation District.
The park is important for its geographical, natural and historical
significance. Located at the confluence of the two greatest rivers in the
nation, the park will be an important wetland restoration area.
Development will include a system of trails, which will take visitors to
the confluence point. The park will provide opportunities for day-use
activities such as nature study, wildlife observation and photography.
Interpretation will include information about the Lewis and Clark
Expedition, which will commemorate its 200th anniversary in 2004.
