by Betty Moore, SLFP.com ST. LOUIS, (SLFP.com), September 1, 2006 - With great fanfare, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels thundered majestically over thousands of fair-goers at the annual St. Louis County Fair & Air Show on the fairgrounds at Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield, Missouri. The Labor Day Weekend festival, August 31 - September 3, 2007, featured a special appearance by the crowd-pleasing Blue Angel flight demonstration team. Spectators pointed to the bright blue sky, shading their eyes to see the F/A-18 Hornets against the sun. White vapor trails created unique patterns as the planes soared upward and then quickly dropped back into another formation over the airstrip. The graceful aerobatic maneuvers of the four-plane Diamond Formation, in tandem with the fast-paced, high-performance maneuvers of its two solo pilots showcased their flying ability. The team illustrated amazing precision flying, performing maneuvers locked as a unit in the renowned, six-jet Delta Formation. The air show included the Red Baron four-ship squadron with their legendary thrilling high flying act in fully-restored historic Boeing Stearman biplanes. The Heritage Flight, featuring the A-10 and P51, was a unique visual representation of the Air Force's history since the days of the Army Aircorp to the present. Starting out as a one-time event, it has grown in popularity and demand and is a staple at air shows across the country and around the world. In St. Louis, the appearance was met with cheers and clapping as the World War II era P51 Mustang and US Air Force A-10 flew over the crowd. The announcer noted that the "Heritage to Horizon" flight was dedicated to all military veterans in attendance whose sacrifices over the years has helped to preserve American's freedom. Following the three hour air show, families and friends headed to the food vendors, carnival rides, petting zoo and military static display area. Proceeds to Benefit Children's Miracle Network Since its inception in 1992, fair proceeds have been donated to Children's Miracle Network (CMN), which equally benefits St. Louis Children's Hospital and SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center. Admission General admission is $8. Admission for children ages 6 to 12 and seniors 60+ years is $4.
