Blunt Issues Executive Order to
Assist with Clean Up Following Storm

ST. LOUIS, (SLFP.com), December 3, 2006 - Gov. Matt Blunt has directed state aid to St. Louis County and City. National Guard Troops and heavy vehicles arrived Friday afternoon, and generators were staged to be utilized as directed by local officials.

"We are working hand in hand with local officials to provide access to state resources as they work through the aftermath of this winter storm," Blunt said.

"The men and women of our National Guard will continue to arrive through the night and provide whatever assistance is needed."

County Executive Charlie Dooley and St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay requested the state's help to address power outages, freezing temperatures, health, medical and safety needs as well as shelter provisions.

Blunt deployed 30 humvees and a number of 2.5 and 5 ton trucks. More than 300 guard member have been activated and disbursed throughout the city and county as directed by local officials.

In addition the state sent 8 generators to provide power to help heat select public buildings and warming sites.

Blunt has offered extensive state assistance to communities recovering from severe winter weather including guard support, access to state facilities and power generators. The assistance will be available only in those communities whose officials request state aid and will be distributed based on the state's emergency operations plan. Local communities in need of state assistance can contact the State Emergency Management Joint Operations Center. The state operations center then coordinates the response.

Earlier Friday the governor issued an executive order declaring a state of emergency statewide in response to heavy precipitation, white-out conditions, high winds, and ice that have impacted communities throughout Missouri. The order also activated the Missouri State Emergency Operations Plan and directs state agencies to provide support in affected areas as needed.

Ameren Issues Safety Warning on Portable Generators
ST. LOUIS, (SLFP.com), December 1, 2006 - In the wake of serious storm damage from the Dec. 1 ice storm that hit Illinois and Missouri, Ameren utilities are urging anyone installing a portable generator to follow strict safety requirements to prevent injury or death both to themselves and to the utility field crews attempting to restore thousands of customers. Near-misses that occurred yesterday prompted Ameren companies' officials to make this plea.

Portable generators can be deadly to those who use them and to utility workers if the devices are improperly installed. If a customer plans to install a temporary generator, they must first open their main breaker or remove their main fuses before connecting the generator to their electrical systems. Failure to do this could seriously injure utility crews working on outside power lines, and/or it could cause damage to a neighbor's property or the customer's own equipment.

Customers must also ensure the generator is properly exhausted to the outside to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Exercise extreme caution when handling fuel for portable generators, especially when re-fueling hot or running generators.

Due to the severe weather conditions and extensive damage, lengthy outages are expected. Customers are urged to seek shelter, to unplug electrical equipment and turn off their furnaces. Customers should stay away from the many downed wires caused by the storm. Ameren Illinois companies cannot offer customers anticipated restoration times but will make those available as soon as possible.

The Ameren Illinois companies are working closely with city and state officials and emergency response personnel to coordinate restoration efforts and ensure customer safety.

To report power outages, call AmerenUE at 314.342.1000 (St. Louis area) or 800.552.7583 (toll-free, outside St. Louis).
