Missourians Can Look for Their Share of $760 Million in Unclaimed Property at Missouri State Fair
JEFFERSON CITY, MO, (SLFP.com), August 4, 2013 - State Treasurer Clint Zweifel holds $760 million in Unclaimed Property for 4.4 million account owners, and is asking 2013 Missouri State Fair attendees to check and see if any of it could be theirs.
Members of Treasurer Zweifel's Unclaimed Property team will be at the fair each day starting Thursday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Mathewson Exhibition Center to help Missourians find and claim their property.
"Each year thousands of Missourians visit the State Fair and hundreds of them find Unclaimed Property," Treasurer Zweifel said. "As Treasurer, it is my job to protect and return this money to the individuals that own it. Events like the fair help my team do just that. I encourage Missourians to stop by the Unclaimed Property booth, check to see if you have property and learn a little more about what Unclaimed Property is. The average claim is $300, which can go a long way this time of year between groceries, school supplies and summer utilities."
More than 523 account owners found $68,000 at the 2012 Missouri State Fair. Treasurer Zweifel has returned $153 million since 2009, 42 percent of all property returned since Unclaimed Property began in 1985. One in 10 Missourians has Unclaimed Property.
"If you cannot make it to the fair go to www.ShowMeMoney.com at any time to look for Unclaimed Property that may belong to you and begin the claims process," Treasurer Zweifel said. "You can also register for email alerts when new property is added matching your information or email search results directly from the website to family and friends."
