St. Louis Under Heat Alert Through Wednesday
St. Louis Heat Alert
With temperatures nearing 100 degrees, Lucy Patterson and her friends found relief in the cooling fountain at Tower Grove Park Wading Pool near the Missouri Botanical Garden.

A heat advisory is in effect for the St. Louis area until 7 p.m. Wednesday with temperatures reaching 100 degrees or more. Heat indices are expected to remain dangerously high through the middle of the week, ranging from 105 to 115 degrees during the afternoon and into the early evening hours.

For information on available cooling centers and energy assistance, residents are asked to call the United Way of Greater St. Louis, 1-800-427-4626.

PSC to Inquire into Storm Recovery Response
ST. LOUIS, (SLFP.com), July 30, 2006 - In a letter to the Missouri Public Service Commission Chairman Jeff Davis on Tuesday, Gov. Matt Blunt asked the commission to investigate Ameren's response to St. Louis storms that left hundreds of thousands without power for days. In a meeting held this morning commissioners voted to conduct an investigation.

"Storms that pummeled the St. Louis area and left thousands without power for more than a week provide a learning opportunity so we can be as prepared as possible should similar events occur in the future," Blunt said. "As the state's utility regulatory agency it is appropriate that the Public Service Commission look into Ameren's response and procedures."

"We share the governor's concern for Missourians in the St. Louis region who have been adversely impacted by this storm and have responded to his request for an investigation into Ameren's response," said Public Service Commission Chairman Jeff Davis. "We look forward to conducting a full and thorough investigation into how this happened and what steps can be taken to avoid such an event in the future."

The governor made two personal visits to the area and saw first hand how the power outage and significant power line damage was affecting Missourians. His letter suggested the commission's investigation should include tree trimming plans, customer access and other outage procedures.

GSA Alerts Public to Recent E-mail Scheme
ST. LOUIS, (SLFP.com), July 30, 2006 - The U.S. General Services Administration's (GSA) Office of Citizens Services & Communications is warning the public to avoid falling victim to a recent e-mail scheme that targets users by sending unsolicited e-mails allegedly from FirstGov, the citizen portal operated by GSA.

"#0099CC" The e-mails then direct recipients to click on a link and enter information related to personal credit card accounts.

The e-mail appears to be sent from this following fraudulent e-mail address:

MONEY ACCESS SERVICE (fraud@firstgov.gov)

There may be other similarly styled addresses. The text of the e-mail includes "Dear Money Access Customer" and asks for certain private personal and private financial data, but recipients shouldn't provide this information.

These e-mails don't originate at FirstGov or GSA. FirstGov doesn't send unsolicited e-mails to the public in this manner, nor do we solicit personal information of any kind.

Responding to unsolicited e-mails from an unknown sender is risky and dangerous because these e-mails often contain viruses that can infect computers or entice recipients to provide more personal and confidential information. GSA takes this matter seriously and is investigating. Users should delete unsolicited e-mails of this type without opening.
