New Bill Expanding Choice for Missouri Cable Customers
ST. LOUIS, (SLFP.com), March 18, 2007 - Gov. Matt Blunt has signed legislation to provide Missourians greater choice and lower prices for cable services. The bill reflects the governor's call for action in his State of the State Address.
"When government allows businesses to create jobs and to compete in an open market, Missourians see lower prices and more choices," Blunt said. "The legislation I signed today allows businesses to compete and creates competition for all companies that want to provide telecommunications and cable service."
Senate Bill 284, sponsored by Sen. John Griesheimer, enacts a statewide cable franchise agreement that will promote lower prices and expanded options through increased competition for Missouri cable consumers. The legislation streamlines the process for new cable providers to enter Missouri markets.
Under current state law cable companies must work with each individual municipality to provide service in the area. The new bill simplifies the process by allowing companies to work directly with the Missouri Public Service Commission to enter several local markets at one time without going through each individual city.
The bill is expected to bring millions of dollars worth of new technology to the state and goes into effect August 28, 2007.
Website Launched for Hispanic Business, Trade and Culture Commission
ST. LOUIS, (SLFP.com), March 25, 2007 -
Between 1990 and 2000, the Hispanic population in Missouri has increased by 92 percent. With that increase has come increased prosperity and economic opportunity. According to Missouri Economic Development Director Greg Steinhoff, Hispanic Missourians have played an increasingly important role in our communities, our economy and our state government. The website will highlight trade and investment issues of importance and relevance to the Hispanic business community in Missouri.
To better promote the diverse and culturally important contributions of Hispanic Missourians to the state, a new website for the Hispanic Business, Trade and Culture Commission has been launched at www.hbtcc.ded.mo.gov
"Hispanic Missourians have contributed much to Missouri's economy," Steinhoff said. "Missouri is committed to working with Hispanic leaders and the communities they represent, to provide an environment with all the benefits and opportunities this state has to offer. Through the hard work of the Hispanic Business, Trade and Culture Commission, Missouri will continue to work with Hispanic communities to improve the lives of all Missourians."
Created by Gov. Matt Blunt in November, 2005, the Hispanic Business, Trade and Culture Commission serves as a statewide advisory body to the Department of Economic Development, on trade and investment issues of importance and relevance to the Hispanic business community in Missouri.
