Pinnacle Surrenders License for President Casino
The President Casino on the Admiral at Laclede's Landing is scheduled to close July 1, 2010

Pinnacle Surrenders License for President Casino
ST. LOUIS, MO, (SLFP.com), March 11, 2010 - Pinnacle Entertainment, Inc. has announced it has reached a settlement agreement with the Missouri Gaming Commission regarding the license of the company's subsidiary President Riverboat Casino-Missouri, Inc., which operates The President Casino at Laclede's Landing in downtown St. Louis, Missouri.

Under the terms of the settlement, the company will voluntarily surrender The President's Class B gaming license and cease operations at that property no later than July 1, 2010. The commission, in turn, has agreed to withdraw and dismiss its preliminary order issued Jan. 27, 2010.

"We are deeply grateful for the support our company and our employees have received throughout this process from many public officials from the City of St. Louis and at the state level," said John V. Giovenco, Pinnacle Entertainment's interim chief executive officer. "However, we have determined that it is in the best interests of our shareholders and our company to settle this issue. We intend to focus on maximizing shareholder value at Lumiere Place and our new River City Casino, which opened on March 4, 2010."

Teachers Give Their Views on Education Reform
ST. LOUIS, MO, (SLFP.com), March 7, 2010 - Scholastic Inc. and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation today released Primary Sources: America's Teachers on America's Schools, a landmark report presenting the results of a national survey of more than 40,000 public school teachers in grades pre-K to 12.

The survey reveals that, while teachers have high expectations for their students, they overwhelmingly agree that too many students are leaving unprepared for success beyond high school.

Primary Sources reveals teachers' thoughtful, nuanced views on issues at the heart of education reform -- from performance pay and standardized tests to academic standards and teacher evaluation. Teacher responses reveal five powerful solutions to raise student achievement.

"Teachers are a critical part of preparing our children for the future, and their voices are an essential addition to the national debate on education," said Margery Mayer, Executive Vice President and President, Scholastic Education.

"At Scholastic, we work daily with teachers and we know that they have powerful ideas on how best to tackle the challenges facing our schools. Since teachers are the frontline of delivering education in the classroom, the reform movement will not succeed without their active support. Primary Sources is a step in ensuring that teachers' voices are a part of this important conversation."

Due to the size and scope of the study, Primary Sources, which was conducted by Harris Interactive, allows for analysis of teachers' views by grade taught, urbanicity, income-level, years of experience and more. The report also provides an in-depth look at state-by-state data, revealing significant differences in teacher views from one state to another.

"Primary Sources tells us that teachers see a need for stronger curriculum that relates to the real world, clear academic standards from grade to grade and reliable data on student learning," said Vicki L. Phillips, Director of Education, College Ready, at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. "The survey tells us that what's good for students and student achievement is good for teachers too -- in fact, it's what they want."

The survey, which was conducted by phone and on the web from mid-March to mid-June 2009, identifies five solutions to address the challenges facing schools today and to help ensure that all students achieve at their highest levels:

1. Establish Clear Standards, Common Across States
2. Use Multiple Measures to Evaluate Student Performance
3. Innovate to Reach Today's Students
4. Accurately Measure Teacher Performance and Provide Non-Monetary Rewards
5. Bridge School & Home to Raise Student Achievement

Walmart Commits $1 Million in Response to Chile Earthquake
ST. LOUIS, MO, (SLFP.com), March 7, 2010 - In response to the tragic earthquake in Chile, Walmart recently announced an initial commitment of $1 million to go toward emergency relief efforts throughout the country.

An earthquake of magnitude 8.8 struck early Saturday morning, resulting in heavy damage throughout central Chile, including the capital city of Santiago.

"With the impact of this earthquake on our own communities, customers, associates and suppliers, we wanted to reach out with assistance as soon as possible," said Eduardo Solorzano, president and CEO of Walmart Latin America, and vice chairman of D&S, Walmart's retail operation in Chile. "Our operations in Chile are actively engaged in providing assistance on the ground, and we're continuing to monitor the situation and look for additional ways that we can help with relief efforts."

Walmart acquired D&S, Chile's leading food retailer, in January 2009. D&S currently has more than 34,000 associates and operates 255 stores throughout the country.

"Giving back to our communities, especially in a time of need, is part of our culture at Walmart," said Doug McMillon, president and CEO of Walmart International. "A crisis only reinforces that commitment, and our thoughts are with those affected by this disaster."
