Build-A-Bear Workshop in Downtown Disney District ST. LOUIS, (SLFP.com), July 11, 2001 - Build-A-Bear Workshop, Where Best Friends Are Made, announced it will be opening a flagship store this fall in the Downtown Disney® District at the Disneyland® Resort in Anaheim, Calif. Build-A-Bear Workshop opened its premier store in St. Louis at Saint Louis Galleria in 1997 and currently operates 52 Workshops in 28 states across the country including the recently opened Workshop at St. Clair Square in Fairview Heights, IL. Chief Executive Bear Maxine Clark notes, "Our plan is always to open in the premier shopping malls and entertainment venues across the country, and as we open our location in Downtown Disney®, we will continue this approach. We are thrilled to be a part of such a unique property." Ms. Clark, former president of Payless ShoeSource, knows what families want in a shopping experience, and the Workshop is her response to happy memories of shopping as a child. Build-A-Bear Workshop's innovative store concept takes children's entertainment retailing to a new level, combining the process of making your own bear with the atmosphere and fun of shopping the way it used to be. "When I was young, it was exciting for me to see all the decorations in the stores, and I loved every minute of it," says Ms. Clark. "That excitement was something I wanted to re-create for children and families today." "We want to provide a quality shopping experience for children and families," says Ms. Clark. "Besides, we all need to remember what it is to be a kid. We love seeing the smiles on our Guests' faces, sharing their excitement and watching them have fun. We think that a location in Downtown Disney(R) will be the perfect place to spread even more happiness with millions of Guests visiting the Disneyland(R) Resort each year." Build-A-Bear Workshop is based on the premise that nearly everyone, regardless of age, has a special fondness for stuffed animals. At Build-A-Bear Workshop, visitors, or Guest Bear Builders, create their own stuffed animals as they "choose, stuff, stitch, fluff, name and dress" their way through a series of bear-making stations. A variety of inventive bear merchandise is also available, including coordinating outfits and accessories for all "bear occasions." Build-A-Bear Workshop's stuffed animals are very affordable, ranging in price from $10 to $25. In addition, with every purchase of $10 or more, each Guest joins the Buy Stuff Club, which is Build-A-Bear Workshop's frequent-buyer incentive program. For every $100 spent, buyers receive $10 off their next purchase. Since its first store opened, Build-A-Bear Workshop has been honored with a number of prestigious awards, including: the 2001 Retailer Innovator of the Year from the National Retail Federation; Interactive Week magazine's 2001 No. 1 Company to Work For; 1999 Global Best Practices Award for Exceeding Customer Expectations from Arthur Andersen; and a Merchandise Achievement Award for "Best Category Marketing" from Playthings Magazine, a publication of the Toy Manufacturers of America.
