The interactive exhibition in the Montgomery Bank Exploradome, combines health and fitness information, screenings and creative learning opportunities, along with new technology that tracks personal performance against "competitors" and yourself over time. Prior to the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, Joan Magruder, president of Missouri Baptist Medical Center, told Saint Louis Front Page that the exhibition was all about nutrition and wellness. "I'm trying to find a balance for my kids and bring the message back to our employees," said Magruder, who brought her family to the preview. Doug King, President & CEO of the Science Center, stated that the purpose of the exhibition is about making St. Louisans healthier through an educational experience. "St. Louis has consistently ranked among America's least healthy cities. This exhibition promotes healthy lifestyles, nutrition and fitness in a way that's fun, interesting and educational." Steven Lipstein, BJC President and CEO, challenged guests to get actively involved in learning more about good health. "We want as many individuals as possible to know the five key indicators of good health - body mass index, blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol level and smoking cessation." More than 15 interactive activities create a unique family entertainment and learning experience:
Visitors can record a variety of health measurements such as blood pressure and body mass index, and check for improvements during future visits. BJC's member hospitals will offer screenings throughout the year including bike helmet fittings, nutrition assessments and blood sugar measures. The screening room will provide health literature, community calendars and short educational videos. Admission to BJC SportsWorks is $10 for adults and $8 for kids (3-12) and seniors (59 and over). Each subsequent visit to the exhibition will be half price. Visitors can purchase a combo ticket that includes admission to the exhibition and any IMAX® film for $15 (adults) and $13 (kids and seniors). For more information about the exhibition and IMAX® film show times, call (800) 456-SLSC or visit www.slsc.org. For information about upcoming health screenings and lectures, call (314) 362-WELL or (800) 392-0936. BJC SportsWorks links the critical connections between sports, health and fitness. BJC SportsWorks will run through April, 2007. City of St. Louis Opens Free Summer Camps ST.
