![]() St. Louis Zoo and KMOV Channel 4 to Debut Weekly Show "At the Zoo" ST. LOUIS, (SLFP.com), March 20, 2003 - The St. Louis Zoo and KMOV Channel 4 will launch a new half-hour TV show on Saturday, April 5, at 10 a.m. The weekly show "At the Zoo," presented by Suzuki, will be hosted by Dr. Jeffrey P. Bonner, president of the Zoo, KMOV Chief Meteorologist Kent Ehrhardt, and KMOV "News 4 This Morning" Co-Anchor Kristin Mitchell. "We think the KMOV viewers will be fascinated by this new show," said Bonner in an announcement. "We'll take the hosts and cameras behind-the-scenes to see what it takes to be a world-class zoo. From witnessing a root canal on a lion, to seeing an elephant get a pedicure, if it's happening at the Zoo, the cameras will be there. "We promise the show will be fun and educational for the whole family," Bonner adds. "We'll be showing the viewers what it takes to care for more than 700 species that call the St. Louis Zoo home. We'll meet the animals' curators and keepers and learn about their special jobs. We'll also explain why the Zoo is working so hard to save some of the endangered habitats around the world." "The St. Louis Zoo is an extraordinary treasure in our community," said KMOV-TV President and General Manager Allan Cohen, "and we're excited to work with and showcase this great resource. We feel that 'At the Zoo' will be a wonderful addition to the KMOV broadcast schedule and popular with our viewers." To kick off the "At the Zoo" premiere, the St. Louis Zoo will host KMOV Channel 4 "At the Zoo" Days on Saturday and Sunday, March 29 and 30, from 12 noon to 3 p.m. Programs of the afternoon activities will be available at the South Gate and The Living World entrances. On Saturday, Kent Ehrhardt, Kristin Mitchell and Dr. Jeffrey Bonner, president of the Zoo, will be on hand in the center of the Zoo, near the Sea Lion Basin, to greet visitors and sign autographs. Also on Saturday, visitors can register to win a private tour of the new Penguin & Puffin Coast, a Zoo Parents adoption of a penguin, and KMOV merchandise. On both Saturday and Sunday, children can help create enrichment items for some of the Zoo animals, make some crafts and play games. For more information, see St. Louis Zoo. Universal Orlando is conducting the search along with Partnership for America's Future, a non-profit organization developed and run by teachers and business people that sponsors many national programs designed to help celebrate the creativity and workmanship of the nation's student inventors. "Nickelodeon's Jimmy Neutron is a brilliant kid inventor from film and TV," stated Bob Gault, president and chief operating officer for Universal Orlando. "We want to honor the ingenuity and genius of real kids from across the country as part of our new attraction opening." Universal Orlando's "Generation Genius" search invites children 7 to 12 years old to submit ideas for inventions that will "help people or make everyday life easier." Finalists will be flown to New York City for a national television appearance. Winners will also get to participate in the April grand opening of the Jimmy Neutron Nicktoon Blast attraction at Universal Studios Florida. Inventions from the search will be featured as part of the opening ceremony and will be displayed as part of the attraction opening. Kid inventors will also serve as "honorary consultants" with Universal Creative and learn how theme park attractions are designed and built -- while talking with attraction designers about what kids want from theme park attractions. "We'll have a lot to learn from each other," said Scott Trowbridge, vice president of Universal Creative and part of the team that is creating the new Jimmy Neutron attraction. "These kids are the perfect age for Universal Orlando. It will be fun to take them behind the scenes." Jimmy Neutron's NickToon Blast rockets into action this April and brings Nickelodeon's famous boy genius to life - along with the largest collection of Nickelodeon characters ever assembled for a theme park attraction. Jimmy Neutron is the first CGI (computer-generated animation) character developed by Nickelodeon for television, film, Internet - and, now, theme park use. Using sophisticated computer graphics, state-of-the-art ride technology and programmable motion-based seats, the attraction will roar, spin, crash and careen guess into an action-packed trip through the universe. In conjunction with the Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation, the Partnership gives the "Freida J. Riley Teacher Award" at Space Day in Washington, DC in May, and it provides monthly awards to young innovators through its "Student Ideas for a Better America" Competition.
