ST. LOUIS (SLFP.com), February 24, 2010 - The age of technology in the 21st century enabled a new level of understanding between two countries as Pierre Vimont, the French Ambassador to the United States, along with education officials from the Academie de Lyon and Missouri Commissioner of Education Chris L. Nicastro, signed an historic agreement intended to build ties between educators and students in France and Missouri.

The unique signing took place, Wednesday morning, at the Missouri History Museum in a ceremony that was streamed live via Skype. The building, originally constructed as the Jefferson Memorial Building, was built near the site of the entry to the 1904 World's Fair - which was held in St. Louis to mark the centennial of the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. Lyon is France's second-largest city.

"In today's world, where globalization is not just a word but a way of life, it is more essential than ever to develop cooperation in K-12 and higher education and also to expand the international dimension of teaching," Ambassador Vimont said.

"We have been working for months to confirm this agreement, and we are delighted to launch this partnership with France. The agreement will open doors for Missouri students and provide new opportunities for professional educators in France and Missouri," Nicastro said.

In an interview following the signing, Nicastro stated that middle school students from a school in Jefferson City are actually working on a web site incollaboration with a school in Lyon. "We anticipate that there could be opportunities for children of all ages. Certainly the immersion charter schools in St. Louis and in Kansas City will have wonderful opportunities to reach out across the ocean and establish 'pen-pal' relationships that will help them understand and work together."

She stated that the students are using Skyp and a web mail system so they can share pictures of their respective communities. "The technology allows us to communicate much more comprehensively and I think in a much more personal way than we have before."

The education commissioner noted that many schools in Missouri offer foreign lanquage programs and French is commonly a part of that program. "We see this as an instructional tool for those schools who do offer French. For those schools that do not offer French, this is an opportunity for those students to have some experience with foreign language and culture that broadens their horizons and introduces them to the global society," stated Nicastro.

Kemp Auto Museum to Host Rockwood Career Fair
ST. LOUIS (SLFP.com), February 21, 2010 - The Rockwood School District in St. Louis County, Missouri is hosting their annual 8th Grade Career Fair event from Tuesday, February 23 through Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Kemp Auto Museum in the Chesterfield Valley.

To help the Rockwood School District with cost of hosting the educational event, the Kemp Auto Museum is again donating the use of their facility space for the three-day career fair, as well as for the time for beforehand and afterwards for set up and tear down of the event. Through the generosity of the Kemp Auto Museum, Rockwood is saving almost $10,000 in facility rental fees, a significant savings for the school district. This is the second year that Kemp Auto Museum has donated their meeting space for this Rockwood School District educational event.

This career exploration fair, a part of Rockwood's curriculum, provides approximately 1,800 eighth grade students the opportunity to meet with at least 175 local business and industry representatives to learn more about potential career paths. Students are given the chance to explore four occupations at the career fair, including advertising and marketing; architecture and engineering; business ownership; visual, culinary and performing arts; retail and the fashion industries; computer technology; legal professions; human and veterinary medicine; military and defense careers; as well as education and teaching. This event is sponsored by Partners In Education (PIE) and Rockwood school district counselors.

Allison Hershberger, Museum General Manager and Director of Special Events explained, "The Kemp Auto Museum is committed to furthering community education, and we are so proud that we could again offer the Rockwood School District the complimentary use of our facility for their 2010 event." She said that "By hosting the Rockwood 8th Grade Career Fair at the Museum, it is our hope that the students learn more about the history and culture of the automobile while they interact with the career experts and community volunteers."

St. Louis ZOO Job Fair at Living World
ST. LOUIS (SLFP.com), February 21, 2010 - On Saturday, March 13, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, the Saint Louis Zoo will hold it last Job Fair in the Living World.
