Work Ready Missouri to Provide Workplace Training to Unemployed Missourians
KANSAS CITY, MO (SLFP.com), August 8, 2010 - Up to 1,000 unemployed Missourians will receive on-site, workplace training for the careers of tomorrow through a new program announced by Governor Jay Nixon.

Work Ready Missouri will match 1,000 participants with employers for up to six weeks of intensive, workplace training. Any Missourian currently receiving unemployment insurance is eligible to participate. Trainees will continue to receive unemployment benefits while participating, and they also will be eligible for a $300 stipend to cover training-related expenses. Employers will not pay anything to participate in the program.

"As we get our economy moving, many Missourians are looking for opportunities to boost their skills and brush up their resumes to compete for the jobs of tomorrow," Gov. Nixon said. "Work Ready Missouri will provide an opportunity for Missourians to get the training they need to get back on the job. This investment will help put Missourians back to work, strengthen our economy and move our state forward."

Participants will be eligible to work 24 hours a week for up to six weeks. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a training certificate and may be offered full-time employment by the employer if a position is available.

To apply, Missourians should visit the state's website, MO.gov, and click on Work Ready Missouri. Missouri businesses that would like to recruit trainees also should apply through MO.gov.

Gov. Nixon visited Automation Dynamics, of Independence, one of the first companies to partner with Work Ready Missouri. Automation Dynamics produces machinery and equipment for the materials-handling industry. The company's subsidiary, Free Energy, produces alternative-energy components, such as solar panels and thermal-energy units.

Automation Dynamics will be providing training opportunities for three Missourians: two in an administrative capacity, and one in production.

"Through Work Ready Missouri, we'll be connecting folks who are out of work with training and employment opportunities, and Missouri businesses will be expanding their trained and available workforce," Gov. Nixon said. "We need employers across the state to step forward to provide training opportunities to make this program a success. This innovative, collaborative initiative will be a win for individuals and businesses alike, and I encourage employers to sign up today to get started."

Work Ready Missouri is funded and administered by the Missouri Department of Economic Development and the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.
