Clients in Health Care, Food Service, Financial Services Are Adding Jobs
ST. LOUIS (PRNewswire), March 8, 2009 - Profiles International, the world leader in employment evaluation and human resource management assessment tools, has identified clients in several job sectors that continue to hire despite the latest unemployment figures.

"Profiles International has a unique vantage point with clients that continue to seek talent," said Jim Sirbasku, co-founder and CEO of Profiles International. "In a challenging market with an expanding labor pool, it's critical that companies find, assess and hire the best performers who fit the corporate culture and job requirements."

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the unemployment rate rose from 7.6 percent to 8.1 percent in February. Job loss was distributed across most major industries.

While the overall employment picture continues to challenge the U.S. economy, several sectors are seeking workers.

  • HEALTH CARE
-- Profiles International's clients need employees across all levels in health care, medical center staffing and senior care.
-- Industry fact: Department of Labor identified health care as one of the strongest sectors, gaining 19,000 jobs in January 2009.
  • FOOD SERVICE
-- Profiles International's clients are hiring restaurant managers, district managers and food service employees.
-- Industry fact: The National Restaurant Association says the restaurant industry employs 9 percent of the U.S. workforce and will outpace the economy in 2009.
  • FINANCIAL SERVICES
-- Profiles International is assisting community banks and credit unions, especially in Texas and the Southwest, who are attracting new customers and displaced employees alike.
-- Industry fact: The Texas Bankers Association reports that a healthy state economy and comparatively low foreclosure rates have enabled many Texas based financial institutions to experience some degree of prosperity and growth.
School Bus Workers in Missouri and Tennessee Join Teamsters Union
ST. LOUIS (PRNewswire-USNewswire), March 8, 2009 - First Student school bus drivers and monitors in Missouri and Tennessee have overwhelmingly decided to join the Teamsters Union. The workers voted 54-21 in favor of joining the Teamsters in Grandview, Missouri and 25-2 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The workers cited similar reasons for uniting, including a need for a fair pay scale, affordable medical benefits, respect and improved safety. The bargaining units total 119 workers.

"Today was a great day," said Angela Harrill, a driver with First Student in Oak Ridge, and now a member of Teamsters Local 519 in Knoxville. "I'm very proud that we passed this vote."

"These workers stood united and did a great job," said Wes Trotterchaud, President of Local 519.

In Grandview, Missouri, First Student monitor Angel Clayton felt confident throughout the organizing process that she and her coworkers would gain Teamster representation.

"I expected us to vote to join the Teamsters," Clayton said. "My hope now is for a better future, so we can get some of the things that we need around here." Clayton said she and her coworkers struggle to make ends meet, with wages not high enough to cover the cost of health insurance.

"There's favoritism here, a need for better wages and for the workers to have their concerns addressed," said Billy Thompson, President of Local 838 in Kansas City, Missouri, the local for the Grandview First Student workers.
