St. Louis Jobs News and Opportunities Fireman's Fund Expands in St. Louis Area With 190 New Jobs
ST. LOUIS, (BUSINESS WIRE), February 19, 2006 - Fireman's Fund Insurance Company has announced that it is in the process of adding 190 new jobs, including 145 new claims professional positions, to its existing operations in Earth City, near St. Louis. As part of the company's expansion, a new national customer sales and service center has opened to assist the company's network of independent agents.

"We are pleased that Fireman's Fund will continue to strengthen its historic presence in the St. Louis area by creating high paying, high quality jobs that will improve the quality of life for Missouri workers and their families," said Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt. "We look forward to continuing our relationship with Fireman's Fund as part of efforts to expanding economic opportunities for Missourians now and in the future."

Fireman's Fund is adding candidates with a range of skills, from entry level and administrative support to claims adjuster experience in the areas of homeowners, auto liability and commercial business insurance. "These positions offer excellent development opportunities," said Joe Beneducci, president and chief operating officer. "We want to offer a strong career path for the right insurance professionals," he added.

With the increase in staff, Fireman's Fund expects to employ nearly 370 people at its Earth City offices.

Fireman's Fund has built a solid presence in the St. Louis area for more than 40 years. Its legacy includes serving as the insurer of the Spirit of St. Louis aircraft piloted by Charles Lindbergh in the first transatlantic flight. Because of its central location, St. Louis has served as the company's headquarters for its Catastrophe (CAT) and Claims Service Center. The CAT team is specially trained to monitor and respond immediately to disasters affecting the company's policyholders anywhere in the country, such as the recent hurricanes affecting the Gulf Coast.

As part of the company's philanthropic mission, the Fireman's Fund Heritage(SM) program, Fireman's Fund has donated millions of dollars to fire departments nationally, including grants in the last 12 months to St. Louis community fire departments. Local grants have been awarded to the Cottleville Community Fire Protection District (CCFPD), the Central County Fire and Rescue, and the St. Clair Fire Protection District. Fireman's Fund was founded in 1863 with a social mission to contribute a portion of its profits to support firefighters.

"From our CAT center to our Heritage program, Fireman's Fund has been an important part of the St. Louis community," said Beneducci. "St. Louis is a great market with a burgeoning economy, and we look forward to becoming an even larger part of the community in the future."

Job Fairs Scheduled to Assist Ford Hazelwood Workers
ST. LOUIS, (SLFP.com), February 19, 2006 - Local Missouri Career Centers will join forces with The Ford Motor Company and the UAW Local 325 to host job fairs for workers that will be affected by upcoming layoffs at the Ford Assembly Plant in Hazelwood.

Shortly after Ford's announcement in January that it would idle the Hazelwood plant, Gov. Matt Blunt pledged the state's support to Ford workers and their families who would be affected by this decision.

The state's first response is to coordinate job fairs and Rapid Response meetings with company and union officials. The first job fair will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, at the Ford Plant, 6250 North Lindbergh Blvd. A second job fair, specifically for workers in the GEN pool, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 1, at Northwest Mall (in the old Burlington Coat retail store). Rapid Response Team meetings are being scheduled in March and will be announced soon.

As a part of the company's restructuring plan, the St. Louis Ford Assembly Plant will be idled, causing approximately 1,250 hourly and 80 salaried employees to be laid off. Layoffs are expected to be completed by April 3.

Companies that are interested in hiring these individuals and/or participating in one of these job fairs should contact Kelley Bernardi at the St. Louis Agency for Training and Employment at (314) 613-7008.
