Four-day Local Pollen Forecast Desktop
Tool Helps Allergy Suffers

ST. LOUIS, (PRNewswire) - Allergy sufferers usually wait for their itchy, watery eyes or runny noses to tell them that the pollen-count is high, and by then the irritation has already begun. Now they can proactively manage their own allergies with an innovative Allergy Alert Tool offered by Benadryl. The tool is a downloaded desktop icon that provides consumers a full four-day pollen count forecast for their region.

Benadryl launched the initiative as part of their challenge to consumers to actively manage their allergies this season. The site, www.benadrylchallenge.com, gives consumers the information they need to begin taking steps to minimize suffering, including avoiding allergens and taking their allergy medicine to minimize suffering. (Note: System requirements - PC platform only, Windows 95 or later, 32 MB RAM, 5 MBs of free disk space, 28.8 kbps modem or faster)

By simply typing in their area code and downloading the icon onto their desktop, consumers will get the four-day forecast, updated daily, as well as detailed information about specific pollens prevalent in the region.

"Allergy sufferers are invited to take control of their symptoms this year by maintaining a desktop pollen count tool which alerts them to how high they can expect pollen counts to be over the upcoming few days," said Gerald Kress of SDI, the parent company of Pollen.com. "Benadryl has such a strong heritage in allergy relief, it was natural for them to partner with Pollen.com on this initiative."

"Allergy sufferers are often caught off guard when allergies attack. This tool will empower them to be better prepared," said Mr. Kress.

In addition to downloading the Benadryl Allergy Alert Tool icon, consumers accepting the Benadryl Challenge can print out a coupon for a dollar off their purchase of Benadryl -- honored at any location Benadryl is sold. If unsatisfied with the product, Benadryl will offer consumers a full refund.

Antihistamines help block histamine - the chemical substance located in the mast cells that when released causes itchy watery eyes, runny nose and sneezing - symptoms associated with an allergy attack. When an allergen such as ragweed, grass, pollen or mold enters the airways it triggers a cascade of events within allergic individuals that eventually leads to the release of histamine. Taking an antihistamine can help block the histamine and thereby relieve allergy symptoms.

The Benadryl Challenge program is powered by Pollen.com with data provided by SDI. SDI is a global research company and leading provider of current localized illness tracking and modeling data.Red Dot

Nutricounter
With a built in food list, the NutriCounter can help individuals with nutrition related diseases like Diabetes, Heart Disease and Weight Loss.
Electronic Meal and Health Management Tool
KALAMAZOO, MI, (PRNewswire) - The NutriCounter, from Napuda Technology, is a small electronic handheld unit that will fit in your pocket or purse. The unit contains 2,000 food items and restaurants in its memory and 400 open slots to easily import your favorite or specialty foods, according to its inventor Nap Napowocki.

The NutriCounter will then record and display your daily weekly or monthly intake of nine nutritional categories including calories, total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates, sugar, fiber and protein.

"Before I invented the NutriCounter, I would work out and exercise but I could never find a way to accurately monitor and adjust my food intake, which as any competent nutritionist will tell you, is an absolutely vital part of any diet," Napowocki says.

If your goal is weight loss, you might use your NutriCounter to manage your intake of calories, carbohydrates and total fat. If your goal is to help control diabetes, you might want to monitor carbohydrates.

Entering the first few letters of a food item will take you to a food or to a particular restaurant such as Taco Bell, McDonald's, etc. If you were to go to McDonald's for lunch and order a "Big Mac," you would hit the "M" key followed by the "C" key and McDonald's would appear on the display. You then simply scroll down to Big Mac, hit enter, and you have just recorded the nutritional content for the Big Mac. You would do the same for all your meals.

If you are about to exceed your goal in any category the NutriCounter will "alert" you by blinking, thus acting as a second conscience. The NutriCounter has an averaging function which will display your intake from 2-30 days. So if you "exceed" your diet one day, your average might still be fine, thus adding incentive to stay on your diet.

"As in life there is a reason for everything," says Napowocki. "I think the first time I was called 'Lard Butt,' the seed was planted to create the NutriCounter."

The NutriCounter is a great tool for those with diabetes, those at risk for heart attack or stroke, along with other ailments associated with an improper diet.

"Getting called 'lard butt' as a schoolboy hurt, however in my case it motivated me to create a product that has helped numerous people find a sensible and healthy way to control their weight," says Nap.
