ALDI to Open New Store in Central West End
ST. LOUIS, MO, (SLFP.com), October 25, 2013 - Beginning November 1, ALDI will once again offer grocery shoppers a smarter alternative as the select assortment discount grocer opens its St. Louis store in its new location at 702 N. Kingshighway Blvd. This store will replace the location at 1315 Aubert & Page, which will officially close on October 29.

"We are pleased to showcase the new look of ALDI with this updated store in St. Louis and continue to help customers stretch their dollars," said Rob Jeffries, O'Fallon division vice president for ALDI. "As important as price is, there's only one way to attract and keep shoppers: You have to have quality products. When people try our ALDI exclusive brands, they are excited by the savings and impressed by the quality."

With higher ceilings, improved natural lighting and environmentally friendly building materials - such as recycled materials and energy-saving refrigeration and light bulbs - the store will offer customers a simple and easy-to-navigate shopping experience.

To celebrate the opening of the St. Louis store, ALDI will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, November 1, to which the public is invited to attend, shop ALDI exclusive brands and tour the new store. Additionally, guests can enter an on-site sweepstakes for a chance to win ALDI gift certificates.

The newest location will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. ALDI accepts cash, debit and EBT cards.

YMCA Celebrates 160 Years in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS, MO, (SLFP.com), October 25, 2013 - The YMCA of Greater St. Louis celebrated the 160th anniversary of its founding on Wednesday, Oct. 23 with a birthday bash at the O'Fallon Park Rec Complex.

During the event, President and CEO Gary Schlansker presented birthday and dinner kit donations from Y members, staff and the community to Operation Food Search. In addition, there were activities for the entire family, including games, prizes and giveaways.

In a statement, Schlansker said, "The Y is excited to celebrate 160 years of helping youth, families and adults of all ages connect with their community and live happier, healthier lives. We are proud to partner with Operation Food Search in our celebration and are grateful for the generosity of our members and employees in helping to donate more than 200 birthday and dinner kits. Operation Food Search make sure that these kits get in the hands of families so they can celebrate their child's birthday with a great meal and special dessert.

The birthday and dinner kits were collected through a drive at all of the branches of the Y during the first two weeks of October.

"For some families, birthdays bring an added stress because of the financial burden," said Craig Goldford, director of operations for Operation Food Search. "By providing kits for family dinners and birthdays, we feel like we can make these special days a little more fun for families. We appreciate the support of the Y and its members and employees."

Clayton Named a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Community
CLAYTON, MO, (SLFP.com), October 16, 2013 - An increasing number of city leaders in communities across the country, including the City of Clayton, are embracing the environmental, financial and quality of life benefits that come with a Bicycle Friendly Community. They are recognizing that bicycling can be the solution to many community challenges.

Recently, the League of American Bicyclists announced the latest round of Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) awards and Clayton has been named a Bronze Level BFC.

"Clayton is playing a critical part in creating a truly Bicycle Friendly America," said Andy Clarke, President of the League of American Bicyclists. "We know Clayton's investment in bicycling will be returned many times over in the health, environmental, and quality of life benefits of a thriving community."

The BFC program is transforming the way communities evaluate their quality of life, sustainability and transportation networks, while allowing them to benchmark their progress toward improving their bicycle-friendliness. With this impressive round, there are now 291 BFCs in 48 states across America. The Bronze Level BFC award recognizes Clayton's commitment to improving conditions for bicycling through investment in bicycling promotion, education programs, infrastructure and pro-bicycling policies.

"Through its Complete Streets policy, named one of the top 10 new Complete Streets policies in the United States, Clayton promotes the creation of a network that accommodates all users including bicyclists, pedestrians, transit users, and motorists," said Clayton Mayor Harold Sanger. "Clayton is a leader in the field. The Missouri Bicycle and Pedestrian Federation urges communities across Missouri to follow our example."
