Missouri to Receive More Than $98 Million for Affordable Housing
ST. LOUIS, (SLFP.com) July 11, 2004 - Senator Kit Bond has announced that Missouri will receive more than $98 million in federal funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
"These programs can make a real difference," stated Bond, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee that funds HUD. "I believe everyone deserves safe and affordable housing and those who are less fortunate should receive the help they need."
St. Louis will receive $31,743,878 for the following programs:
- Community Development Block Grant $24,898,000
- Emergency Shelter Grants $927,837
- HOME Investment Partnership Program $4,701,041
- Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS $1,217,000
St. Louis County will receive $10,244,956 for the following programs:
- Community Development Block Grant $6,480,000
- Emergency Shelter Grants $245,192 * HOME Investment Partnership Program $3,519,764
HUD's Community Development Block Grant funds are used to provide housing and expand economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income families through a number of activities such as buying property; construction/reconstruction of streets, water and sewer facilities, neighborhood centers, recreation facilities; demolition; rehabilitation of public and private buildings; and public services. The HOME Investment Partnership Program funds the building, buying and rehabilitation of affordable housing for rent or home ownership and provides direct rental assistance to low-income people.
