Hardee's 10th Annual Rise and Shine for Heat Raises More Than $85,000
ST. LOUIS, MO, (SLFP.com), February 12, 2010 - The 10th annual Hardee's Rise and Shine for Heat at more than 60 bi-state area Hardee's restaurants raised more than $85,000, so far, which is 70% over its projected goal. The proceeds are from special collections from more than 450 volunteers, who served as celebrity greeters, and 100% of the sells proceeds from Hardee's Sausage and Egg Biscuit sandwiches.
However, the special canister collections ONLY will continue through Valentine's Day weekend on Sunday, February 14, where the charity is hoping for additional drop-off tax-deductible donations by the public.
Larger tax-deductible donations maybe given on-line at www.heatupstlouis.org or send to Heat-Up St. Louis, Inc., c/o UMB Bank, P.O. Box 868, St. Louis, MO 63188.
This year, Heat-Up St. Louis received a surprised $10,000 donation from officials from GMAC Insurance at the Westport Hardee's.
"We're so blessed to have the strong support of our political, civic and media communities," without their competitive-spirited support, people would not be able to get utility assistance,"said the Rev. Earl E. Nance, Jr., 2010 collection chairman.
This year's honorary board chair was Missouri Lt. Governor Peter Kinder, and St. Louis Mayor Francis G. Slay, serves as the honorary board chair, and St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley is an honorary co-chair.
"This has been a fantastic moment in our history," said Melanie DiLeo, board chairwoman of Heat-Up St. Louis. "Without Hardee's outstanding hard-work and generosity, more people would never be helped this winter."
People needing energy assistance must be seniors, the disabled or low-income families, with children, who need aid with the restoration of their heating services, or who are threatened with a shut-off. They should call 314-241-7668.

Express Scripts to Spin-off Rx Outreach with Prescription Medicines for Low-income Americans
ST. LOUIS, MO, (SLFP.com), January 31, 2010 - Express Scripts, Inc., has announced it will create a new independent, nonprofit charitable organization to improve access to prescription medicines for low-income, uninsured Americans and working families.
Express Scripts said it will donate Rx Outreach, a for-profit business unit, to establish the new organization, which will partner with healthcare professionals and other entities committed to serving those in need.
The organization will be located in St. Louis and led by Michael Holmes, Executive Vice President of Express Scripts. Holmes will remain with Express Scripts until a replacement is identified, at which time he will lead the new venture. "While I am sorry to be leaving Express Scripts, this is a tremendous opportunity to make a sustainable difference on the healthcare landscape," stated Holmes. "I applaud Express Scripts for its creativity and vision, and personally am thrilled to lead such a noble effort."
Originally established to meet the needs of those with few options to obtain safe, affordable prescription drugs, Rx Outreach's new structure as a nonprofit will serve as a catalyst for public, private and charitable interests to work together to bring appropriate drug therapies to those who have limited or no access today.
With a current adjusted prescription count of 1.2 million per year, the new organization is equipped to address the significant potential to serve a growing uninsured population estimated to be over 20 million by 2019. In addition, the opportunity to develop expanded partnerships with branded and generic pharmaceutical manufacturers, community health centers, rural and frontier clinics, and faith-based charities will allow Rx Outreach the potential to offer a broader level of service.
"Express Scripts' donation will assist deserving Americans in obtaining better access to the safe and affordable drugs they need," said George Paz, Chairman and CEO of Express Scripts. "I am pleased that Rx Outreach will play a new and expanding role in providing these benefits, and I'm confident that Michael Holmes will make a significant contribution toward making this happen."
