Missouri Businesses Warned About Fraudulent Mailings ST. LOUIS, MO (SLFP.com), December 30, 2007 - Secretary of State Robin Carnahan has issued a business alert about a scam that includes fraudulent letters sent by a company called National Business Registration asking businesses to pay $487. Businesses in several states have reported receiving National Business Registration's "final notice" that tells the owner that, "Since the introduction of the Patriot Act of 2001 all businesses are required to register with the National Corporation Registry." Missouri businesses should be aware that there is no national corporate registry and that the letter is a fraud. Any corporation or individual receiving this letter should not give the company any money, and should contact the United States Postal Inspections Service at (877) 876-2455 to report this mail fraud. "We want to make sure that Missouri business owners are aware of this scam in order to protect themselves from fraud," said Carnahan. "We're also asking folks to report any such letters to the US Postal Inspections Service." |
