Pronettsolutions Finds Niche in Developing Wireless Applications
by Bob Moore, Editor, SLFP.com
O'FALLON, IL, (SLFP.com), June 2, 2001 - PronettSolutions, an O'Fallon, IL-based company, has carved a niched in developing wireless applications using ColdFusion. The company was recently honored with a First and Second Place for Best Wireless Site awarded by the St. Louis Web Developers and Designers Organization during the 2000 St. Louis Web Developer Awards.
In an interview with David E. Prouhet, president of Pronettsolutions, he explained how the wireless application allows validated users to view an online directory database from any location. "The power of wireless technology is in having the right quality and the right quantity of information at the right time."
Prouhet noted that the company, which is comprised of former military officers, is use to doing complex programs for the web on the backend side. "With wire applications, we take the dynamic information, massage it and push it out to another device such as the handheld," he said. "These programs can be applied by individual organizations to enable them to take information from their current sites and form it for use on WAPs or PDAs."
The company has formed partnerships with local design firms, hosting and consulting companies rather than take its products public. "We typically do custom work. We enjoy developing and making things work and then handing it over to people. If they want to market the product, then we are proud to have been a part of that."
Prouhet started programming in 1982. At the time he also had his own lawn-mowing business. Needing an inspiration to grow the business, his father, who was an engineer for McDonnell Douglas, suggested that he join the Air Force and learn to fly an F-15. Prouhet never learned to fly but did receive a degree in business. "While I was a Communications Officer in the Air Force, I decided to get my MBA. At the time, the whole thing with the Internet and Mozilla was just beginning to happen." In 1995, Prouhet decided to start a computer company while stationed at Scott Air Force Base. After leaving the Air Force, he began working full time in developing software applications.
"We're seeing that the government is really pushing towards the wireless concept to be able to have intrabase communications and be able to order parts real time," noted Prouhet. He commented that larger corporations are also exploring the technology to see how they can leverage it.
He added that there is a plethora of magazines being published on wireless technology. "We're seeing people actaully taking this technology out, playing with it and seeing what kind of practical applications they can have. Like ideas where we can pull up information or small documents to be able to make decisions rapidly," said Prouhet, referring back to the concept of quality and quantity at the right time and place that he had learned in an MBA class.
Today, the company works with companies in both the private and public sector. Pronettsolutions recently completed revamping the Air Force Communication Agency's (AFCA) Information Assurance Web site. The company's portfolio includes streamlining operations for the St. Louis Police Department's Major Case Squad, publishing on-line, searchable opinions for the South Western Illinois U.S. District Court, and revamping the Air Force's Cryptologic Access Program database. G. A. Sullivan Showcases Smart Tags Solutions at the Microsoft Office XP Launch in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS, (SLFP.com), June 5, 2001 - G. A. Sullivan showcased its custom smart tag solutions live on stage at the Microsoft Office XP launch held at the America's Center on June 5, 2001, as a result of winning the "Microsoft Office XP Partner Solution Challenge" held by Microsoft's MidAmerica District.
G. A. Sullivan is a technology provider, with headquarters in St. Louis, that offers development solutions for various vertical lines of business, including Insurance, State and Local Governments, Real Estate, and IT Services. The company has adopted Microsoft Office XP smart tags as a critical component of the company's strategy to build and deploy cost-effective solutions.
"Office XP presents a tremendous opportunity for G. A. Sullivan and our ability to deliver our clients unique ways of improving productivity and collaboration capabilities throughout their organizations. This is an extremely exciting release of Office - particularly for companies focusing on application development," stated Greg Sullivan, president & CEO of G. A. Sullivan.
G. A. Sullivan is developing a suite of smart tag components with particular focus on the insurance industry. These components recognize data elements such as policy numbers and policyholder names in an e-mail message, Word document or Excel spreadsheet and provide a set of options for gathering additional information and integrating it into the Office document. Information is seamlessly retrieved from one or more systems using XML, specifically the ACORD XMLife standard. As a result, the smart tags can be used to interface with any insurance system that uses XML. Knowledge workers, such as customer service agents, sales agents, and brokers, can take advantage of this smart tag technology to simplify their daily workflow processes.
"Office XP smart tags offer a wide breadth of great solutions that will significantly improve people's productivity and collaboration capabilities," said Lisa Gurry, product manager for Office at Microsoft Corp. "We're excited to work with G. A. Sullivan to deliver Office XP solutions to our customers."
The company is well known for authoring industry leading technical publications, including "Building Enterprise Solutions with Visual Studio 6" by Sams Publishing, and a soon to be released book on Microsoft .NET application development. G. A. Sullivan has appeared for three years on Inc. Magazine's Inc. 500 list and on the Deloitte & Touche Technology FAST 500 for the last four consecutive years. Cybercon Launches New "Gig E" Service
ST. LOUIS, (SLFP.com), June 2, 2001 - Cybercon Inc., a St. Louis-based company, has launched its new Gigabit
Ethernet (Gig E) service to deliver high-speed data and Internet connections. Cybercon will be the first in St. Louis to offer its Gig E service to businesses as a "wide area network" or WAN at a lower cost than what it would take to run a conventional high-speed network like a T-1 or T-3.
In comparison, T-1 and T-3 lines are both super high-speed connections
capable of transmitting data at a rate of 1.5 mbps and 43 mbps (million
bits, per second) respectively. Cybercon's Gig E service will be able to
transmit data at speeds of a gigabit or one billion bits, per second.
That's 666 times faster than the traditional T-1 line and more than 20
times faster than a T-3 connection. The only line comparable in speed to
Cybercon's Gig E service is an OC-12 at 620 mbps.
"We are committed to our customers," says Joshua Chen, company President
and CTO. "We want to continue adding these types of valued services and
highly reliable products for our customers. We want to see Cybercon
remain ahead of the industry while giving our clients the best possible
performance."
Cybercon currently maintains connections through some of the largest
Internet transit providers in the world for the more than 600 servers
currently hosted at their data center. Cybercon's existing infrastructure
will allow Cybercon's Gig E service customers to link their businesses
directly to AT&T, Sprint, UUNET (MCI WorldCom) and Level 3 Communications.
However to subscribe to the service, businesses must be located within 60 miles
of Cybercon's data center (located in downtown St. Louis) and must have
access to a local fiber loop.
Cybercon's network is 100% redundant; from routers to network switches. The company's clients including worldly prominent Akamai, Digital Island and Keynote systems. Further information can be obtained on the Internet at www.cybercon.com
