by Bob Moore, SLFP.com ST. LOUIS, MO, (SLFP.com), April 30, 2010 - Gov. Jay Nixon today took part in the official announcement that nationally known sandwich manufacturer Landshire Inc. is relocating its corporate headquarters to downtown St. Louis. "We continue to see clear signs of Missouri's ongoing economic recovery, as demonstrated by another solid, out-of-state company like Landshire expanding and investing in St. Louis," Gov. Nixon said in remarks at the press conference. "Landshire chose Missouri in part because of the effective economic incentives we were able to offer, including Quality Jobs tax credits. Their relocation is an example of what all our tax credit programs must do on a consistent basis - provide a tangible return on investment to taxpayers in terms of new investment and new jobs." The state of Missouri awarded Landshire nearly $220,000 in Quality Jobs program incentives. Landshire will add 40 jobs to the St. Louis area at its corporate offices, and has plans to create another 16 new jobs over the next five years, with an average annual salary of $52,000. In a conversation after the announcement, Landshire CEO Joe E. Trover, Jr. said that working with the State of Missouri and the City of St. Louis made the decision easier to move its headquarters from Belleville, IL. to Laclede's Landing on the St. Louis riverfront. "The biggest prompt was that we needed was more space," stated Trover. "We were outgrowing it. We looked at moving and we looked at renting space. We had a 15 point criteria of what we were looking for. One of the criterias was to be within 15 miles of our new production facility in Caseyville, IL. Many other things factored into the search such as near restaurants, hotels, convenient and good place for employees." "As we narrowed that search we ended up coming to this building," he stated. "The space presented itself well and we felt it matched our image of what Landshire is and who we sell to." Trover added that the 14,500 sq ft of space would also provide them with the ability to build a test kitchen and development kitchen and a marketing lab. Founded in 1961, Landshire produces more than one million sandwiches weekly and distributes its products to all 50 states. The company employs 350 workers nationwide, including those at its newly expanded 70,000 sq-ft manufacturing operations in Caseyville, Ill. Landshire's new corporate headquarters in St. Louis is scheduled to officially open on May 21.
