Slay, a bit hoarse from greeting supporters, told stlouisfrontpage.com that he was ready to begin his new job. "I'm real excited about the opportunity to serve the City of St. Louis, the city I love so much, the city I believe in. I'm also relieved that the campaign part of the effort is behind us, so we can get to work," he said enthusiastically.
"First of all and foremost, we are going to make government more efficient," said Slay, highlighting his campaign platform. "We are going to be reinventing government and making it easier to do business in the City of St. Louis. We want to make our neighborhoods safer and stronger. We want to help improve the quality of education."
"I'm anxious to get to work. We've got a lot of challenges ahead of us. But I can tell you this, I'm ready for the challenges," he smiled.
Slay, age 46, has served as the President of the Board of Aldermen since 1995. He also served as 23rd Ward alderman from 1985 - 95. In two weeks, Slay will be sworn in as the new St. Louis Mayor.
