St. Louis Wore the Green for the St. Patrick's Day Parade

ST. LOUIS, (SLFP.com), March 17, 2001 - Thousands of bundled-up spectators lined Market Street from Broadway to Union Station on a cool Saturday morning to enjoy festivities of the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, also known as St. Louis' rite of spring.
Founder Joseph McGlynn, Jr.; Parade Committee Chairperson Maureen McGlynn; the Honorary Parade Marshal Jim Hannifin, St. Louis Rams offensive line coach; and Irish Dignitary Sean McEniff, chairman of North West Tourism, County Donegal, the Republic of Ireland; lead the 32nd annual parade as it stepped off at noon from Broadway and Market Streets. The parade proceeded west on Market past Union Station to 23rd Street, where it ended several hours later.

Parade-goers laughed and sang Irish songs as they watched marching bands from high schools in Missouri and Illinois, marching units, and the children's favorites - giant cartoon character helium-filled balloons. Many spectators and their pets joined in the fun by wearing creative Irish attire.
The family-oriented parade featured over 100 units, over 5,000 marchers and elaborate floats from local Catholic parishes, neighborhood groups, Irish arts schools, Irish "clans," local sponsors, equestrian and canine groups, auto clubs and other groups affiliated with Irish heritage in St. Louis.
